What's this? - This is a pen.
いつ使うねん！？というツッコミが日本全国から届いております。
"What's this? - This is a pen."という会話が行われる頻度は低いもしくはまったくないですよね。レッスンの目標が「"What's this?"と質問して、答えることができる。」ということであれば、先生は、学習者様が普段の生活で自分が"What's this?といっているような場面を設定することで、覚えよう使ってみようとやる気も高まり、定着度合いも高くなります。
ポイント
先生は、生徒が自分自身が英語を 聞き、読み、話し、書いている 姿を想像できるよう、身近に感じるトピックとともに表現や単語を紹介することが良いです。

Yoshiki : Hello!
Waiter in the restaurant : Hello, Sir. Welcome to our restaurant. Do you have a reservation?
Y : No, I decided to have a meal in this restaurant on the spur of the moment.
W : Thank you for choosing our restaurant.
Y : Which dishes would you recommend me?
W : You might want to have these spicy noodles.
Y : They look tasty, I would go with them.
-The dish came to the table.-
W : How's the taste?
Y : I like it, but it smells a bit unique, doesn't it?
W : The smell comes from this vegetable.
Y : What's this?
W : This vegetable is called phakchi.
この文章を読んだ（聞いた）あとに、学習様にテキストの内容について質問し、What's this?はどこに書かれてあるか質問することで、気づき を促します。
その後、What's this?はどのように使われているかをCCQ(Concept checking questions)で単語や表現の理解力を深めることで、単語や表現を 知っている にレベルアップさせていきます。
CCQ :
When Yoshiki said "what's this?" ,
- Did he know the vegetable? - No.
- Was this the first time for him to eat this vegetable? - Yes.
- Did he want to know about this vegetable? -Yes.
このあと、練習問題や会話練習などを通して、単語や表現を 使える にレベルアップしていきます。
学習様へのアドバイス
過去形、現在完了などの文法項目、英作文の頻出表現などにおいて、自分は、知っている と 使える 、どちらのステージに居るのかを分析することで弱点の強化を図ることができます。
先生へのアドバイス
先生は、自分が教えたいトピックに集中し、on the spur of the momentやmight want toなどは別の機会に回しても良く、わからない単語全てに注目する必要はありません。
調べさせたい場合は、レッスンのあとの復習や宿題に回し、自分で調べてもらうことにする。
